PROPAGANDA

“The PROPAGANDA project is based on seven different text designs on relevant aspects of humans and their environment. The slogans, which are printed on T-shirts and handed out to exhibition visitors and passers-by in public space, draw from the fields of art, culture, economics, ecology, politics, and science. The validity of the messages evolves within the local and universal context. As living text sculptures, the T-shirt wearers infiltrate urban space, reaching far beyond the exhibition location and the duration of the exhibition. They become mobile assistants and spreaders of propaganda, so to speak, carrying the artworks out into the public. Since the Austrian Cultural Forum in London also defines national terrain, yet humankind is increasingly confronted with problems that can only be solved globally and not nationally, an essential part of this conceptual approach is to shatter this ’national self-image’ both topographically and ideologically.” (From the artist statement)

As part of a collaboration between the Künstlerhaus and the St. Karl Borromäus Rectorate, Reiterer’s slogan “Culture is a highway, art is a forest path” can be seen on the main façade of the Karlskirche church and is thus carried into the public space.
